Drinking four or more eight-ounce glasses of water every day is very good for you.
The French research, which involved 3,615 men and women with normal blood sugar levels at the beginning of the study, revealed that those who took in more than 34 ounces of water a day had 21 percent less risk of developing hyperglycemia for the next nine years as compared to those who drank only 16 ounces or less a day.
The study took into consideration other factors that play a role in a person’s level of blood sugar such as sex, age, weight and physical activity. Consumption of sugary drinks, beer and wine were also taken into account.
Other medical experts point out that this is not enough basis to say that drinking water can lower blood sugar directly. But if confirmed by additional research, it can be added to the long list of reasons to drink plenty of water a day. It’s a good idea for the 26 million Americans suffering from diabetes to drink up.
