Effective Home Remedies for Dry Cough

Health experts say that coughing is our body’s natural response to get rid of irritants conquering the respiratory system. This is the way of the body to remove foreign matter and mucus from the lungs and the throat. Coughing also occurs when air passageways are congested.

Several factors can trigger coughing and these are smoking, allergies, inflammation of the larynx and pharynx, asthma and even the changes in weather.

Experts expound that there are usually two kinds of cough – the productive and the non-productive.
Productive cough refers to the type that produces mucus ad phlegm, while the non-productive, usually called the “dry cough”, does not release mucus. Dry cough is one of the most irritating illnesses a person could have because it can be very itchy and sometimes annoyingly painful to the throat.

At present, several medications have been created in order to cure dry cough, but most of these are made using chemical compounds which can sometimes bring side effects to the body. If you want to try a safer and more natural alternative to cough syrups and tablets available on drug stores, you can use some home remedies which are equally as effective as the products that you can purchase from the stores.

Lemon with Salt and Black Pepper – Cut a piece of fresh lemon, take a slice and roll it on salt and black pepper. You can suck on this every two to three hours to get rid of the bacteria which cause dry cough.

Suggested Treatment/Relief:

Honey and White Pepper – Get a tablespoon of honey and mix it with half a teaspoon of ground white pepper. For five days, take this three times in a day to cure dry cough.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Ginger and Red Pepper – Mix half a teaspoon of red pepper, half a teaspoon of ginger and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar until you produce a paste. Add two tablespoons of water and mix the ingredients very well. Take this two times a day.

Honey and Onion – Since the ancient times, onion has already been used to cure dry cough. Juice a fresh onion and mix the juice with one to two tablespoons of honey to make the taste more appealing. Pout this mixture in half a glass of warm water and drink this twice a day until your dry coughing goes away.

Other Remedies and Prevention
Aside from these home remedies, you can also try including certain foods in your diet to improve the body’s condition.
For instance, almonds and grapes are excellent choices to remedy dry cough. Grapes contain high level of Vitamin C which helps boost a person’s immune system while almonds possess healing properties to make dry cough heal at a faster rate.
