Body Odor, also called Bromhidrosis, isn’t something people would be proud of. In fact, it’s one of those embarrassing things that you’d just want to get rid of the second you notice that you have it. Fortunately, removing body odor isn’t rocket science. Shower, Shower, and Shower
So the most sensible thing for you to do is to keep yourself squeaky clean. Shower at least once a day and if that’s not enough, shower more as needed. This is important to wash away sweat and reduce the amount of bacteria on your skin. Although sweat itself doesn’t have any odor, microscopic bacteria thrive well on sweaty skin. That means that bacteria can multiply a lot more quickly, and in turn work up a stink if you’re sweaty. Wash areas in your body that are prone to sweating as this would effectively reduce your body odor. Ironically, people who sweat excessively and have the condition called hyperhidrosis actually have less tendencies to have body odor because the excessive sweat washes away the bacteria that causes odor.
Bathe With Anti-Bacterial Soap
When bathing, it is a must to use antibacterial bath soap to reduce the number of bacteria in your skin and to avoid body odor. Be sure to read the list of ingredients before buying a soap, especially if you have sensitive skin. This is to ensure that your skin won’t be irritated by the soap that you intend to buy. If it does irritate your skin, switch to a milder antibacterial soap.
Dry Yourself Completely
After showering, use a clean and dry towel to dry yourself completely. Towel your whole body carefully, particularly the areas that are prone to sweating. Bacteria that bring odor to the body have difficulty breeding on a dry skin. See to it also that you don’t share towels with anyone, and that you wash your towel at least once a week to get rid of the germs that may have stuck with it.
Use Strong Deodorants and Antiperspirants
Apply a strong deodorant or antiperspirant on your underarms. It would be best to get a product that is a combination of deodorant and antiperspirant. A deodorant masks the smell of your skin while an antiperspirant suppresses sweating through an ingredient called aluminum chloride. If you’re not sure what particular brand would work best for you, get small samples of each product for testing. Determine which one gives the most effective results. It would also be smart to consult your dermatologist regarding this matter.
Wear Clean Clothes
Sometimes, it’s not really your body that gives the odor but the clothes. Changing clothes often particularly when you’re sweating profusely can help a lot. Always bring fresh clothes that would tone down your body odor. Bring a pair of fresh socks as well if you are prone to foot odor.
Avoid Consuming Offensive Foods
What you eat is what you smell. Foods that make you sweat more like peppers and spicy dishes contribute to body odor, and so do aromatic foods like onions and garlic. Red meat is also notorious for this. If you have body odor that you wish to get rid of, limit consumption of these foods.
