Antioxidants are molecules capable of inhibiting the oxidation of other molecules. Antioxidants perform the crucial task of protecting body cells from the harmful effects of free radicals.

Free radicals are molecules that are produced whenever the body breaks down food as well as when the body is exposed to tobacco, radiation, and other environmental pollutants.
